RONALD CAPE, PHD
is an industry veteran and has been an investor in the biotechnology industry for several decades. In 1971 he co-founded Cetus, where he was Chairman of the Board of Directors for 20 years and Chief Executive Officer for 13 years until the company merged with Chiron Corporation.
He was the founding Chairman of Darwin Molecular Corporation, which was later sold to Chiroscience plc. Dr. Cape currently serves on the Board of Directors of Caprion, Inc., Chiroscience plc., Cogito, Inc., GlycoDesign, Inc., Neugenesis Corporation, NeuroVir, Inc. and Sunol Molecular Corporation. In addition, he is a founding member of the Industrial Biotechnology Association - now the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) - and served as its President for three years.
He is also on the Board of Directors of the National Science & Technology Medals Foundation, the Whitehead Institute, the Editorial Advisory Board of BioCentury and the Scientific Advisory Board of the Canadian Medical Discoveries Fund, Inc. Dr. Cape is the co-editor of Biotechnology: The Science and the Business.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. He has served on the Board of Regents of the National Library of Medicine and the Boards of Trustees of Rockefeller and Princeton Universities and the California Public Health Foundation.
He received an AB in chemistry from Princeton University; an MBA from Harvard University and a PhD in biochemistry from McGill University, Canada.
