Jbed Micro Edition CLDC(TM) and Jbed for MIDP will carry the significant value add licensee designation.
ZURICH, Switzerland - May 23, 2002 - esmertec (www.esmertec.com), a leading provider of Java(TM) solutions for the mobile world, today announced that it has formalized its relationship with Sun Microsystems by becoming a Java licensee and achieving certification for its compliant CLDCä/MIDP technology.
The license covers esmertec's Jbed Micro Edition CLDC(TM) platform and Jbed for MIDP. esmertec's independent implementations of Sun Microsystems Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME(TM)) CLDC (Connected Limited Device Configuration) and MIDP (Mobile Information Device Profile) technology are powered by the Fast ByteCode Compiler (FastBCC(TM)) which dynamically loads, compiles and executes Java bytecode on a mobile device and delivers an exceptional user experience with native speed performance.
"Compatibility, as symbolized by the Java 'cup and steam' logo, is the foundation for the Java technology's value proposition and is the asset customers consider most important when selecting system technologies, especially for the complex and platform diverse mobile client market," said Tracey Stout, vice president, Java & XML Marketing, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "We welcome esmertec to the family of compatible Java technology licensees and appreciate the addition of their innovative Jbed platforms to the dynamic and vibrant market for mobile Java technologies."
"Java has played a key role inside esmertec since inception, we have not only strived to provide the best solutions for our customers, but have used the power and productivity of Java to become a world-class engineering team as well," said Hansruedi Heeb, CEO of esmertec, inc. "Partnering with Sun is a natural step and we are excited and looking forward to delivering additional value to the emerging mobile world we have before us."
"Strengthening our partnership with Sun will not only expand on our commitment to provide leading Java solutions, but will also assure carriers and device manufacturers that our technology meets and exceeds the standards the wireless market demands," said Alain Blancquart, COO esmertec, inc. "We bring significant performance, power management and footprint advantages to the mobile handset market with a 100% software solution, certifying our products with Sun provides our customers these competitive advantages in a CLDC/MIDP compliant package."
"J2ME has become a requirement in the wireless space and the demand for esmertec's technology is driven by a common goal shared by the entire community, which is to deploy high performance computing on a small mobile device," said Ted Lewis, President and General Manager, Americas, esmertec, inc. "When it comes to user experience, a must have building block is performance, however another hard user requirement is security and portability, our partnership with Sun will ensure that Jbed deployed devices are fully compliant with these key standards."
