Carpooling.com (formerly Mikini Media) operates ride sharing portals in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Greece with more than 3.4 million registered users and is the leading online ride share marketplace in Europe. The platform frequently lists more than 600,000 offers and requests in Germany and Europe, and acts as a broker for 10,000 to 50,000 rides on average per day. Currently, no fees are charged and monetization is achieved solely through advertisement. The introduction of a booking system in connection with a low fee, usage of the high demand on the marketplace for other transportation methods such as train or plane, as well as further internationalization all hold great chances for the company’s development, especially given that there are high entry barriers for competitors.
