If home run exits in Europe continue to run at almost twice the US rate, with half the amount of capital needed, then one VC market will outperform - and it isn't the one everyone thinks.
European venture capital is cleverly fighting its way back into investor's portfolios. In the first three quarters of 2006 nearly €3bn was invested in the asset class, an improvement on 2005's figures, and year-end statistics are also expected to reflect this upward trend. In the US, US$5bn is invested in the venture sector each quarter compared with US$1bn going into European funds in the same time frame.
